Terms & Conditions
We want great communication and try to approach each case in good faith with an open ear. We hope you will also feel comfortable approaching us in the same manner. Following them makes the lessons, teacher-parent-student relationships, and school life smoother and more predictable, without misunderstandings or disaccords.
The Terms, Conditions, and Guidelines apply to all lesson agreements made between Fantasia School of Music (FSM) and its students and the parents/carers of its student ("the student" or "students").
Lessons
Welcome, all children and adults interested in music lessons and ready to achieve their musical goals!

-
The student will be informed of the day and time of their first lesson before their teaching commences, either by phone, in person, or by email. FSM will aim to confirm all the lesson details by email but does not guarantee this will be the case if it deems sufficient confirmation has been provided by other means.
-
One lesson each week is mandatory for online and in-person lessons. More frequent classes are available, encouraged, and should be negotiated with the teacher.
-
Books and other materials are parents'/students' responsibility. Your teacher will provide needed links and/or info on where to get them.
-
The lesson length might be 30, 45, or 60 minutes. For students who choose to prepare for exams, 45 minutes a week minimum per lesson is mandatory.
-
For good improvements and results, students are expected to practice at home frequently between their lessons. Your teacher will help you to determine a daily practice time depending on the level.
-
Parental involvement in the learning process for younger students is strongly recommended - students improve much better and faster when the parents help, especially with planning and managing consistent practicing at home.
-
Music exams are available for well-practicing diligent students, and we encourage taking them - it motivates and inspires students and gives a professional evaluation of their musical progress.
-
Students must have all their books, notebooks, and materials for their lessons. If taking lessons online, they must have their things ready by the lesson time. Read more about what you need for online lessons here.
Make-Up Lessons and Breaks
-
If the student cannot attend a lesson, please let FSM know at the earliest time possible, either by email, text, or phone. A 24-hour notice is required to reschedule a lesson; otherwise, the lesson will be forfeited.
-
There are 4 guaranteed make-up lessons per school year (September - May). Exceeding the limit may be resolved with a personalized video lesson, group master class, or event, but it is not guaranteed. It is not recommended to have more than four reschedulings per school year. Often rescheduling negatively affects students' progress and gives them a bad example of being irresponsible and not serious about things.
-
Scheduled make-up lessons can't be rescheduled. The FSM teachers are trained to go above and beyond to help work make-up lessons. However, If you change your plans or decide that you would prefer not to have your make-up lesson, the scheduled catch-up lesson will be forfeited. Please note that the onus is on the caregiver/parent to work jointly with their teacher to find a mutually beneficial time.
-
If your teacher cannot teach a lesson, it will be taught by a substitute teacher or rescheduled individually.
-
No classes are scheduled during major holidays like New Year's Day, the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
-
No make-up lessons or credits will be provided for an individual's absence from a group lesson or master class.
-
Where the entire group is absent, we will endeavor to provide a make-up/catch-up lesson later that term, and if we are unable to do this, we may choose instead to place this on your student's account as customer credit.
-
When a teacher cannot teach due to illness or an emergency, arrangements will be made for a substitute teacher or to continue the lesson at a time and day that suits the student and FSM.
-
When going on a break/vacation or terminating lessons, parents/students, please give the teacher and school a 2-week notice. It helps the teacher adjust the schedule accordingly and have a more predictable income.
-
When going on break, the student's time slot can be reserved if paying in advance for the month they plan to return. If not, the spot is not guaranteed because it can be assigned to another student if requested.
Etiquette
-
Students are expected to arrive at lessons or events on time. Time missed due to lateness to lessons may be lost.
-
If a student or parent is not feeling well and has contagious symptoms, staying home and having the lesson online or rescheduling is strongly recommended. Safety is one of our priorities!
-
Music lessons are not only about being musical but also social and cultural. Being polite and friendly to teachers, parents, and other students shows the student's upbringing and improves our lives.
